Fasting (Sawm)

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

Fasting in Islam: Sawm (English: fasting) is when Muslims don't eat from Suhoor (morning breakfast) till Maghrib (prayer at sunset). They can't eat or drink anything. It is compulsory to fast in Ramadan (the month of fasting). Ramadan is 29-30days long depending on the moon (Hilal:cresent). After Ramadan, it is Eid ul Fitr. It is Haram to fat on this day because it marks the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawaal. This is why Shaytaan (Iblees) fasts on Eid. Its Sunnah to break your fast with water and dates, like the Prophet (Peace be upon him P.B.U.H) did. Before breaking your fast, you should make Duaa to Allah (S.W.T) because he answers all your Duaas at this time. Also in Ramadan, your rewards are increased 70-700 times. So if you read the Entire Quraan, Allah will count it as reading 50+ Quraans! That is a bit of info about Ramadan and Sawm (Fasting).
