Islams kitaab (book) the Quraan

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

Islams holy book, the Quraan (ko-ran) is Muslims holy book. We believe Allah (god) gave the Quraan to Jibra'eel (Gabriel) who gave to Muhammmad. The first revelation to Muhammad was when he was in the Cave of Hira. Jibra'eel came to him and said "IQRA (read). Muhammad said "I cant" Jibra'eel said IQRA 3 more times and each time Muhammad said "I cant read". Then Jibra'eel said the words of the Qura'an to Muhammad (Surah Alaq 1-5) "Iqra bismi rabi kallthathee khalaq. Khalaq al insana min alaq. Iqra wa rabbu kal akram. Allathee allah ma bil qalam. Allamal insana ma lum ya lam" Read in the name of your Rabb who created. Created man from a drop of blood. Read and your Rabb is the most generous. The one who taught by the pen. Taught man that which he did not know. The Quraan has 6666 verses (if you include bismillah hir rahmanir rahim) and 114 surah (chapters). Baqarah surah which means the cow is the longest chapter in the Quraan with 286verses as Kauthar surah which means abundance is the shortest surah with 3verses. So that is a little bit about the Quraan. Oh, and one more thing, If you memorize the whole Quraan you are called a Hafiz.
